Just before the Apple //e came out I worked on an Apple //+ that had an
Apple // external drive size case that had a internal ram card and
populated with ram chips that connected to the disk drive controller.
This device was from Finland and their Techs were at the local paper
mill when their //+'s logic board died. They did not want to pay the
415.00 + labor for a replacement //+ logic board. Our store had the //+
computer on sale for 600.00 at that time. I was able to repair their
logic board as 1 I/C had fried and took another transistor with it. I
replaced both parts and the //+ powered up. I was amazed at the access
speed. I asked what that ramdisk cost in Finland and they told me it was
about $5,000.00 U.S. dollars. It had a regular power cord that plugged
in the wall. There was no label on the case so who made it is anybodies
guess.

PlusDisk:

Static RAM. Basically a RAMDISK that is battery backed. It looks like
a hard drive to PRODOS. Store data to the PlusDisk, and turn off
your computer. Turn the computer back on, the data is still there.
Very fast access time.
