Subject: Manipulating dick images (was Apple //Gs on a pci card)

Warr asked:

Can we talk a little bit about how to get files onto and off of an
emulated Apple II?
--------

As someone pointed out, if you are using Windows, by all reports
CiderPress is a great program. I don't have a Window's box so I'll have
to leave it to others to point out the various advantages.

My setup is running KEGS under Linux. Although there are command line
programs for manipulating disk images I use a Mac Emulator called
Basilisk in conjunction with KEGS. Sort of like I do with my real Mac
and GS.

Basilisk emulates a 68K Mac, It can creates HD images of any size, mount
ProDos disk images and Disk Copy images as well as give access to the
host machine's file system.

Once the images are mounted just drag and drop files as needed, exit
Basilisk and mount in KEGS and you are good to go. Obviously, after the
images are mounted in KEGS they can be manipulated as well.

I expect this could be adapted to other Apple II emulators also. BTW
Basilisk has a port to Windows, if you are so inclined to use it there.
Not sure about OSX.

Also "Bernie" is a fine program if you are capable of running a mac on
9.x or lower. Mounts, creates uses Images nicely.

Lastly, you may find images on line that you could legally use. The KEGS
site had a HD image, non bootable, for DL'ing. If need be, you could
erase and reuse the image. Don't forget to make a backup of the original
image first. :)
