Another .02 cents worth. My rom 03 Gs only recognizes the 5 1/4" drives
first on the daisy chain then connected to the 3.5 drives. I tried it
the other way and the 3.5 drives were recognized but the 5.25 drives did
not show up. I tried numerous 3.5 drives as the first drives but the
5.25 drives never showed up. Is my Rom 03 Gs logic board defective ?

Subject: Re: Beige 5.25" Drives on a Rom03 GS? An Answer (maybe)

: Well given its age, I would guess it has the same
: wiring and mechanism as any beige UniDisk 5.25 or
: DuoDisk Drive, so I would assume the same connectivity
: limitations apply.

Yup, all have the same physical mechanisms. The only difference between
them might be the analog cards, but other than the Duodisk, all of the
Unidisk 5.25 drives analog cards should work in any other, even though
they may be different electronically.

: That said, the //c drive doesn't have a port on its
: back for daisy-chaining, so it would have to be the
: last device on the chain...

Of course, since all 5.25 drives are at the end of the chain, and being
the IIc has one internally mounted, it would not need one. You can only
have 2. Also, all of the 5.25 drives, except the Disk II, will work with
the IIc, unless you make a special adapter, which was sold back in the
day so that you could connect Disk II drives to the DB19 card. I have
one of these adapters, and can make dual, or single models, although I
don't really want to make them, I could, for the right price. :o)
