Year of the Tech Patent Lawsuit, Part 2
One of the last cases to go before the Supreme Court,

Privacy is one of those concepts which are easier to

Internet users in Asia could face long wait for
repairs
Internet users were warned Friday that they face a
long wait for services to return to normal in parts of
Asia after an initial survey by repair ships
discovered extensive damage to undersea
telecommunications cables caused by an earthquake off
Taiwan's southern coast.

No Safety 'Net for Telecommunications
A few seconds of undersea quaking was all it took to
cause telecommunications disruptions throughout
tech-savvy Asia, where Internet services slowed or
stopped, phone lines went dead and financial
transactions ground to a halt.

Earthquake in Asia, Spam Plummets
An earthquake on Tuesday near Taiwan caused widespread
disruption to telephone and Internet networks. The
quake affected an area of the sea bottom with a lot of
undersea cables that broke, and since there is only a
limited number of cable repair ships, it will take at
least weeks to fish them up and splice them.

Technology in the Classroom: "The Digital Learning
Challenge: Obstacles to Educational Uses of
Copyrighted Material in the Digital Age"
The great interest in Berkman Center Faculty Director
Terry Fisher and Berkman Fellow William McGeveran's
paper, "The Digital Learning Challenge: Obstacles to
Educational Uses of Copyrighted Material in the
Digital Age," suggests that the question of
technology's influence in education is emerging in
many fields and across disciplines. Analyzing the ways
in which educators are constrained by digital
copyright protections, the paper's ranking at the
Social Science Research Network (SSRN) sees it as a
top download in four subject areas: it is the #1
all-time download in "New Institutional Economics",
the #7 all-time download in "IO: Productivity,
Innovation & Technology", the #2 all-time download
"PIT: Innovation (Topic)" and the #2 all-time download
in "PIT: Intellectual Property (Topic)". The highest
order of congratulations go to Professor Fisher,
Professor McGeveran, student fellow Jackie Harlow and
Arielle Silver for their tremendous accomplishment.
