The US Internet Industry Leads The World, Right? Wrong
China is now the largest Internet market in the world. We're pleased to report
that Beijing-based entrepreneur Tom Melcher will be writing an occasional post
for us about what's happening there. ... The Internet was invented in the US,
American Internet companies dominate the headlines, and the major Internet
governance bodies are based in the US. So it's not surprising that many people
think of the "internet" as an American-dominated industry.

Results of Domain Name Front Running Study
In an attempt to contribute to community discussion regarding domain name
front running, ICANN commissioned a study to assess the occurrence of domain
name front running. The SSAC defined domain name front running as "an
opportunity for a party to obtain some form of insider information regarding
an Internet user's preference for registering a domain name and to use this
opportunity to preemptively register that domain name.

House Dems Suggest Path For ICANN
House Energy and Commerce Chairman Henry Waxman joined Communications

creation of a permanent relationship between ICANN, which administers the
world's Web addresses, and the Commerce Department. A memo formally joining

accountability. ICANN leaders have claimed that after 10 years in business,

When It Comes to gTLDs, Follow the Money (Part 2) by R. Shawn Gunnarson
In my previous article I showed that ICANN expects to recover a lot of money
from the first round of applications for new gTLDs-$92.5 million, to be
exact-and that even that dramatic figure is probably substantially
underestimated. For that reason, I argued that ICANN probably will recoup a
windfall from the first round of gTLD applications and pointed out that
ICANN's promise to consult with the Internet community before spending such a
windfall is unsatisfactory because it has failed to say beforehand what
surplus revenues might be spent for.

.Eco: The Domain Extension for Treehuggers
As far as top-level domains (TLDs) are concerned, ICANN has full control over
whether or not we see new TLDs make it to the web. Most of us are pretty
content with the ones we have, like .com, .edu, .net, .org, but Dot Eco is
trying to muster up support and momentum for a new TLD: .eco.

Al Gore Vs Mikhail Gorbachev? The Latest on the .eco Domain Battle
As we've been tracking on TreeHugger, there is a push for a new top level
domain (TLD) - the .eco domain - and there are currently a couple hats in the
ring. On the one hand, there is the .eco that is backed by Al Gore, Sierra
Club and others. And on the other hand, there is the .eco that is created by
Big Room and is supported by a few great backers, the latest of which is Green
Cross International, headed up by none other than Mikhail Gorbachev. Hopefully
the big names lining up behind the .eco applications lend some weight to what
a TLD like this could mean for the planet.

Gorbachev's Green Cross Org Backs Competing Dot Eco Effort
It looks like battle lines are being drawn over the future of the dot eco
domain. As you may have heard, there are two separate groups fighting to host
the .ECO top-level domain. ICANN, which oversees new applicants for domain
extensions, has yet to decide if .ECO will even exist, much less who gets to
control it - but that hasn't stopped rallying efforts from both sides to win
support for the cause.

"Conficker": Sommerferien für Zombie-Rechner

On y
parle RV (Réalité virtuelle), IM (Message instantané), "first" et second life,
avatars. C'est nouveau, c'est joli, ça a l'air super. ...

coca.cola. As novas URLs, porém, ficariam praticamente restritas às grandes
corporações, já que custariam entre US$ 500 mil e US$ 1 milhão.
