The same change have to be applied to the upstream. May be I should

It is a good idea. Your proposal being always in review, it makes sense
to update it as a new patch.
I spent some extra time tonight working on this and I submitted a second
patch to the proposed change 39798:

Mats, in this patch I have replaced awk with cut as you have suggested.
