Package: aptitude
Version: 0.6.1.3-3
Severity: normal
aptitude will crash on exit if the background thread that checks for
changelogs on the system is still running. The problem is that this
thread accesses global apt structures, which are destroyed during
shutdown. That thread should be redesigned so it's based on the
generic job queue thread class; that way it can easily be shut down
when the program exits.

I can't reproduce this neither in Squeeze (0.6.3-3.2+squeeze1) nor Sid
(0.6.8.2-1).
Between 0.6.1.3-3 and 0.6.3-3.2 there were several bugfixes with
regards to changelog handling, e.g.:
* Don't crash in "aptitude changelog" when the package given on
the command-line doesn't have a valid version (Closes: #567318).
Thanks to Dmitry Semyonov for the patch.
and
* Backport patch from head to make sure the changelog progress bar
is safely destroyed after it downloads (Closes: #566205).
Closing the bug with aptitude's initial version in Squeeze, i.e.
0.6.3-3.2.
If anyone can still reproduce this issue in Squeeze or newer, please
reopen this bug report.
Regards, Axel
