Package: pbuilder
Version: 0.172
Severity: critical
Justification: breaks the whole system

I tried to install build deps for fam and pbuilder-satisfydepends removed
existing packages
while i worked on other console, see below output. I used this script in the
past, but it never removed
anything from my laptop.

lz@huge:~/work/packages/stable$ lz@huge:~/work/packages/orig/fam-2.7.0$ debuild
dpkg-checkbuilddeps: Unmet build dependencies: libtool (>= 1.5-2) automake1.9
debuild: fatal error at line 993:
You do not appear to have all build dependencies properly met, aborting.
(Use -d flag to override.)
If you have the pbuilder package installed you can run
/usr/lib/pbuilder/pbuilder-satisfydepends as root to install the
required packages, or you can do it manually using dpkg or apt using
the error messages just above this message.

First it was sarge, then I ugraded to etch/testing -> etch(stable) -> sid ->
lenny/testing

 That's probably the problem, then. Old aptitudes (I think the sarge
timeframe suffered from this) would sometimes decide that packages you
had installed with other frontends were automatically installed. This
shouldn't happen any more (mostly), but I can't fix state files that
have already been corrupted. Running "aptitude keep-all" is one way to
cancel all the spurious removals.

As the original developer + maintainer said, this was probably changed
~8 years ago, and would not have been a problem after.

If any such state files were corrupted, that's already happened and
cannot certainly be undone now, not after all these years, when most of
these systems will not even exist.

So I think that this report should be closed now, but please reopen it
if you still observe the behaviour and/or can provide more data.

Sorry that this was not completely handled in a more timely manner.
