Sorry that this wasn't handled until now, the maintainance of aptitude
has not been very good in the last few years and there are still lots of
reports to address.

I am not sure where the versions of the libraries came from, but in
principle the transcript above does not indicate a problem of aptitude,
or at most that it doesn't offer a satisfactory solution as the first /
best solution.

If you replied "n" to the question above, it would try to find another
solution, like removing libnspr4-0d and installing the 3 that kept back.

It is impossible to know with this information if libnspr4-0d was there
because it was installed from other repository, if it was there because
the system had been upgraded from a previous stable, if it was needed by
some other dependencies, if it was on hold due to previous requests...

After such a long time most probably you don't have the system in the
same state to get the extra information needed to analyse that, and as I
said on first looks it just doesn't seem a serious problem in aptitude,
at most a bad suggestion for first solution. It is known to do that in
many cases, and there are many bugs reporting it already.

So, in summary, I am afraid that not much can be done now about this bug
report, so I am closing it now. Please reopen if you still have
concerns about it.

Cheers.
