Hi,
I'm one those of who like to upgrade daily by typing in the command
line... therefore it will be much appreciated if those commands that are
used the most have an alternative short version (as cvs commands do).
It will be especially useful for long commands: I would much rather type
'aptitude su' than 'aptitude safe-upgrade'
Thank you for all your good work!
Patricio

I am considering doing this, but even if relatively simple, it would
be quite a lot of work documenting it, adding hints in --help, even
deciding the best short names and solving clashes, possibly some new
messages for translation...
This request didn't ever receive any follow-up, for or against.
Contemplating this request again, I think that nowadays, with shell
completions (and always the possibility to use alias or other tricks if
desired), it could be a nice to have but not very demanded, and there
are many other issues with higher priority than this (> 500 bug
reports).
Furthermore, adding this feature would complicate other issues which
need attention, like cleaning-up the command line implementation or
refreshing the documentation.
So I am going to close this report, after more than 7 years open, no
seconds and no intentions to implement it, it's not very useful to keep
open, and adds to the noise.
Cheers.
