On an upgrade from etch to lenny aptitude always forces me to remove
cacti (also see bug #514342). While trying to resolve this problem
manually I got to the following aptitude misbehaviour:

Did you continue to see this issue after that occasion?
The resolver was heavily changed in the versions after the one that you
are using. I am not sure if we can do much about this bug report now if
it's only this old case.
