I presume that you mean orphaned in the sense of WNPP: without a current
Debian maintainer. Such a check may be suitable as a third party
program, or integrated in to apt-listbugs.
I agree with the above, I think that it's better for external programs
like apt-listbugs to do this, and so the feature can be shared from the
different programs like apt, aptitude, synaptic, cups...
As a side comment, I think that knowing about this is not very useful:
there are many packages not formally orphaned which are badly
maintained, very outdated or with important problems, and some which are
orphaned which are mostly OK. In fact, just by being orphaned, at least
the situation was somewhat acknowledged and there are more chances that
people adopt them or take a look as part of QA processes/maintenance
than when they're just silently poorly maintained.
In any case, after several years with this request open and with no
"seconds" nor intentions to implement this, I think that it's better to
close this report.
