In other words, it's still supported and equivalent, but deprecated.

IIRC the French translation is only at the state of Aptitude 0.7.1
currently, i.e. could use an overhaul by some native French speaker.
This is indeed the main problem, although it goes much further back than
that, I had to put some screenshots in english because the french ones
were missing at least since 2012.
So if this doesn't improve and nobody steps in, at some point maybe the
only solution is to remove the french documentation package.
Well, so this is a matter of a translation being out of date. If french
translators or users do not care about this, there's not much that we
can do.
Disabling the translation/package would be an option, but the issue
highlighted here is minor in any case, because the old option is
equivalent to the new one, so we're not going to remove it just because
of that.
So closing this, no point in keeping bugs report about translations not
being up to date.
