I was wrong here. You seem to build from the 0.8.5 tag. Please build
from the HEAD of the master branch. The bug is fixed there, too, see
https://anonscm.debian.org/cgit/aptitude/aptitude.git/log/?h=master
Closing this bug report as the bug is already fixed in both, Debian
and Upstream branches.
