No, I received the same messages as Henrik reported in his OP, i.e. "Got an
error response (303: See Other)". 
But, looking at the response Klaus got on his request via lynx, it seems that
the server is trying to refer to "/error_path/400.html" but can't find that
page. This would mean that he is actually issueing a "400 Bad request" response,
which could be an indication for what you suspect. I'll try to analyze the
headers sent/received by QuickBooks on Windows (don't know how at the moment but
... :-))
