This is perfectly clear from the GPL (did you ever read it?):
In short if you make a program that contains both gpl'ed code
as well as your own then you can license your own code as you
please _if_ it is _clearly_ separable from the gpl'ed code thus
forming an independent program in it's own right. OTOH if your
code is dependent on the gpl'ed code then the _whole thing_
must be gpl'ed.
Draw your own conclusions.
Somehow I thought that Linux Arachne had advanced beyond this
stage: we discussed the license extensively more than a year
ago..
