Sure, if you are running Linux on Pentiums, you might as well use the 2.2 kernel and glibc 2.1. However, for those of us running Linux on old 386s and 486s, we get better performance and less bloat using the 2.0 kernel and libc5. IMHO the best market for the SVGAlib version of Arachne is old 486s with 8megs of RAM. These computers do not run X browsers very well, so Arachne should be very attractive. I have used many different versions of Linux on my four 486s, and I get the best performance from Slackware 3.x (2.0 kernel and libc5). BTW AFAIK all of the one-floppy Linux distros are still using libc5. Cheers, Steven
