My guess is that either your modem has a slightly unusual configuration
(eg. numeric response codes), or the responses themselves are "funny".
Also, there is no point providing an "/M:ATZ" parameter, since LSPPP will
always send an "ATZ" to the modem, in addition to the "/M" parameter.

What I recommend with Arachne is to use Miniterm to make the modem
connection (dial) and use LSPPP to make the PPP connection. This is
the approach I have used in my LSPPPCFG package, which you can
now download via http://jds-freeware.hypermart.net/ - this will convert an
EPPPD installation of Arachne into an LSPPP installation, using the
BOOTP mechanism (so that you can finally forget about DNS settings!)
The software in the above package does all the ARACHNE.CFG changes
required, so you don't have to change it manually, nor duplicate your
PPP settings as parameters of LSPPP (this is done automatically from
the PPPDRC.CFG file created by Arachne, each time you connect to
your ISP). Hint - if you need other parameters for LSPPP, that are not
given in PPPDRC.CFG, you can edit the SUB-PPPD.BAT file (created
by the above software), and add them to the LSPPP.EXE command ...

Michael - one thing that should be changed for V1.70, is to *not*
assume that BOOTP implies a LAN connection. If Arachne knows
it is using a PPP connection (ie. it generates the file PPPDRC.CFG),
then it *should* show the "connect time" in the bottom right corner
of the screen. It should *not* use "IP_Address PPP" to determine
whether to display this. After all, *both* EPPPD and LSPPP support
the BOOTP mechanism, and AFAIK, you need to use this for LSPPP
if you want to have automatic DNS resolution (which is important,
especially for newbies, as ISP's no longer want to provide this
information). (Thanks to Glenn for pointing out this little problem ;-).

Regards,
Joe.
