Subject: Hotmail.

Dear List:
We get a lot of backpackers here who all want to use hotmail of course.
There is a German webmail site which works with Arachne, but we have to
tell the Hotmail clients to give up. I did have a Netscape 4.1 running
on Windows 3.1 just to get into Hotmail, but recently that has stopped
working as well - you get nearly through all the login protocol and
suddebly you are thrown back to the start.
The thing to do is to get either a server who will run NEOMAIL as a
webmail program, or who will allow telnets, and be prepared to install
arachne on other peoples computer.

Kali
PS after some months of frustration I eventually got a PPPD/chat login
to work. all those different config files, and I have no idea how
PPPD reads them.... The "expect send" sequence is tricky too...

Hi Glenn,
I made several trials. The first ones went wrong but if I
'un-yellow' the new written line the template is clean an can hold a new
line.

However there is a small drawback: to un-yellow I have to go to the end
of the line and give an ENTER and that moves the written line and
produces a blank line in between.
Of course that blank line can undone... 3 key strokes to clear the
template. Is there an easier way?

BTW: Still using 1.61. I made so many changes and personal adaptions ;-)

Followed your advise and looked at http://www.xms.ms and indeed no
problems with Arachne.
Sent my neigbours an e-mail about it and now it is up to them.

Regards, Bastiaan

Hi Glenn,
Unusual little trafic for the weekend. Even my own message to the list
did not echo back.
Only Kali did come through apart from those nasty generals.
I'am not sure they were on the list (6 times) because I did delete
without looking ;-)

I finally get to your message after falling behind in email and news.

I assume the modem didn't need any special drivers in Caldera OpenLinux? Some
Winmodems work in Linux with a special driver.

DOS software tends to be behind the times in hardware support, making
assumptions based on older interfaces such as ISA. I find comtool can't see my
PCI modem at all, but chat0 or chat can, I hear the dialing. EPPPD does not
work for the PCI modem as it did for the ISA modem. LSPPP with CHAT0 dialing
works on the PCI modem and connects to the Internet. Ralf Brown wrote a PCI
program to find hardware on the PCI bus, yet his RCBOM can't find my PCI modem.
CONEX 7.1, however, dating to 1995 (?), accesses the PCI modem, too bad I don't
have any BBSes to test on.

I can't even setup Net-Tamer for my PCI modem because the setup only allows
three hex digits for the base memory address, and the configuration file is
in some nondocumented binary format, so I can't simply edit a text file. My
PCI modem is on IRQ 11, base 0xd400. I haven't even checked
http://www.nettamer.net/tamer.html
to see if there were any updated in the last six months (?). I just conclude
Net-Tamer is hopelessly backward and don't bother to follow it.
