Subject: Why are they trying to kill off only the little people?

On March 3rd the spam fighters shot down the free email service
formerly offered by "http://www.subdimension.com"; where I used to
have a free email account. They used to offer very fast and
reliable POP3 service and they offered free web-based email too.
Now they are not even offering any email services for pay. The spam
fighters also shot down "Telebot" and "Valise.com" in recent years.
Maybe they murdered a lot of the races of little people in some
atrocities I haven't heard about yet. I only very seldomly received
any spams originating from any of those domains, even though I had
been a subscriber to their free email services. I am always receiving
a whole lot of spams from the big powerful and evil dictator domains
such as hotmail and yahoo. Why are the spam fighters interested
only in killing off the little people who are trying very hard to
behave in a manner that will not offend anybody, and who will take
appropriate action against their own people who do offend others?
Why don't the spam fighters form a coalition to strike down the big
powerful and evil dictator domains that are truly the worst offenders?
The worst offenders are always launching their spam missiles against
all of us innocent victims who never did anything wrong to deserve any
of this constant bombardment. Many of their weapons of mass
destruction are designed to disperse very harmful biological agents
such as viruses and worm larvae to invade MicroSoft tissues. If they
get into any Micr$oft tissues they will grow there. Then they will
soon start multiplying by binary replication. The result is most
often fatal for computers suffering from auto-immune defiency diseases
such as Window$. Those who brought about the visitations of such
plagues as these are the big people, not the little people. Why are
they trying to kill off only the little people?

Subject: Re: Why are they trying to kill off only the little people?

Hey, Sam;
I too am upset in losing my subdimension account, in
over a year of using their free email service, I was
spammed once and only once. They were very diligent in
controlling spam. I gave up hotmail, because it was a
festering stinkhole of spam, and hard to access with
anything other than IE. My yahoo account this week had
356 spam letters, and only four legitimate emails in
two days! I could access my subdimension webmail, very
easily with any and all browsers, DOS or Linux, including
Arachne, Links, Lynx, Nettamer, Lynx386, or any other.
POP3 was very reliable, and their WEB pages easily
accessed by any browser. I HATE &%^#)!$ SPAM, but
why should they lose their services, when the big boys
are far more polluted, and much less effective in
controlling the spam?

Why do you attribute this to the "spam fighters"?? Lots of free
internet services have gone by the board because nobody can figure
out how to make them pay and support themselves. Maybe that's
the reason.

Quite right.

IMO,
The #1 cause of "free service demise" is the fact that no-one is
paying for those services.

The subdimension web site explains that their email services were
shut down by the spam fighters. I do know of other free email
services that have announced that they had to stop offering free
email services for financial reasons. Some of them are still
offering email services, but no longer for free.

The "valise.com" web site used to offer a fine email service for a
very nominal fee. They used to have lots of subscribers for their
service. They announced that they were shut down by the spam fighters.
I don't know why they were picked on. I very seldom received any spam
originating from that domain even though I was a subscriber.

linuxfreemail.com is still free, and it works with
arachne.

I stand corrrected.

http://www,subdimension.com explains that their ISP terminated
their connection for breaching the terms of service. Subdimension
admits to "an open relay problem" and also admits that some of
their subscribers involved themselves in spam activities and that
they don't know what to do about it.

A few weeks ago you were explaining how you thought it reasonable
that sdf.lonestar.org blocked domains that were the origins of spam.

Isn't the ISP's pulling the plug on subdimension consistent with
the anti-spam viewpoint you've advocated in the past?

For me Linuxfreemail works for doing POP3 with any DOS-based email
client. The web-based interface part doesn't work at all with
anything, not even with Window$ browsers and not even with the linux
LINKS browser. I can send an email to the webmaster to tell him about
about this problem, but he will not reply. Linuxfreemail also provides
PINE running on a remote server accessible by Telnet. The setup for
the "URL-view" feature doesn't work on that server. Other than that it
does PINE just fine.

Recently Linuxfreemail went down for a very long time, maybe for a
couple of months or more. There was never any explanation posted nor
any email sent to me to tell me why they went down for so long.
Linuxfreemail has been up and running again for about the last two
or three weeks or so.

Yes, it is consistent with the anti-spam viewpoint I have advocated in
the past. My point is that I think they should start taking down the
worst offenders first before they start picking on the little people.
Everyone knows who the big time offenders are and nobody is doing
anything about them. I am an advocate also of lenient punishment for
first offenders whose offenses are not very grave and for offenders
whose offenses are very minor and few and who indicate a willingness to
take steps to correct their behavior.

Really? Who do YOU think the worst offenders are?

Did you ever wonder why everybody who signs up for a hotmail or a
yahoo account gets dumped on with tons of spam? Could it be that
hotmail and yahoo sell email addresses to spammers? People who use
many of the lesser-known free email services only seldomly get
spammed. We may of course most reasonably suspect that yahoo sells
email addresses to spammers because they actively promote and they
host lots of porn sites. At least they used to be into doing that at
one time in the recent past. I don't know if they are still doing it.
Anyway, you know how almost all porn sites promote themselves. By
spam. Many spammmers use yahoo and hotmail email addresses. Some of
the spams actually originate from yahoo and hotmail servers.
