I think you will find that you don't have any UMBs to use. Most of the 8088s
I had came with only 256k or 512k and no easy way to increase it. One DID
have 1meg and came with a driver that allowed using the upper memory for
a little ramdisk (384k). Memory managers that map different areas require
a 386 or higher. I never tried any of the later versions of DOS on an 8088
to see it they could load high. They wouldn't be able to use the HMA tho
because I think you need an A20 switch for that.
