(I was returning for a different package of M$IE3.) National Semiconductor's site had a similar problem, but I never got to the root of it. I found Arachne 1.50 to be more pernickety about tables than 1.48, so now I write a sort of XML and make sure I use </p> and </td></tr> tags within tables. Hi Klaus; I'm confused. That is NOT what I would expect. If Useterm yes (no equal sign) and Autodial yes (no equal sign), then I would expect your result. i.e. manual login. If Useterm no and Autodial yes then I would expect it to be fully automatic. How do we create config.sys and autoexec.bat that takes into account the users' choices for memory managers and caching software ? Nor would I require the user to have some special software - like Norton Integrator. Glenn has it and I have it - but we can't assume everyone does and we cannot legally ship it to everyone. So if anything special IS needed we have to write it and provide it. Norton's ds.exe isn't required. If a particular user doesn't have it, the directories will simply not get sorted before creating the .zip file. And the ony other programs the user would need to get (if they don't already have them), would be pkzip and pkunzip. These are the config.sys and autoexec.bat files from the diskette... No assumptions are made about the potential user's system. All needed files are on a single 1.44mb floppy. (!ar150rc.exe is simply the SFX file created for my example floppy. What I would sooooooooooooooooooooooo much like to see is a small change in code so that user could enter path & software name to use and based upon configuration the default editor or editor of choice would automatically appear whenever one wanted to [C]ompose or reply to mail. I should think it would take no more than changing a hardwired line of code to a local variable, said variable set within Arachne.cfg from options. The file name would be set when exiting that editor, the same way it's assigned now when exiting from default. Headers & quote [if selected] could be passed to external editor the way it goes to default editor now. Agreed, the user would need to know how to "hand enter" ccs and attachments, because the overlaying "framework" of the default editor wouldn't pass to the external editor. Or, as far as that goes, those things could be done by simply modifying the message in the outbox. But for many of us having the editor of choice available "INSIDE" Arachne, rather than having to save, exit Arachne, use editor to write message, save message, etc. would be great. l.d. - -- Arachne V1.60;b1, NON-COMMERCIAL copy, http://arachne.cz/ ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 19 Jan 2000 20:36:37 -0400 From: "L.D. This can quickly and easily be fixed. Go to file MIME.CFG Check out lines 88 & 89; they should show external/smtp & external/pop3 . "Comment out" those two lines by placing a semi-colon ; in front of each of the two lines. That should clear up the problem for most. If it works on line, making the change above will fix it to work off-line. I downloaded and installed the Linux version. It looks like a pretty functional WYSIWYG word processor with all the normally expected features, most of which are readily apparent in the screen shot. On the down side, it doesn't read/write very many formats. You have the choice of a native format, .abw, or Gzipped abw, .zabw. Then there's .rtf, .txt, .utf8, and .html. I guess that's plenty of formats as long as you don't need to send a file to someone else, though I guess even Windows folks can read .rtf, right? I've never even heard of .utf8 so have no idea what that's all about. It looks functional enough that I think I'll keep it for the time being... at least til I get around to getting DOSEMU working to the point where I can use my old favorite, Geoworks. ;) - Steve ------------------------------ End of arachne-digest V1 #959 *****************************
