I currently have two Windows 98 and one 386 running DR-DOS on a network. The two Windows 98 machines have been able to share a dial-up connection using Sygate software, but I have never been able to figure out how to get the 386 to join in. I've had to simply dial out to use Arachne on it. The DOS machine can see the two Windows 98 boxes, but the Windows 98 machines don't have a clue that the 386 exists, something else I haven't found an answer for. The Win98 machines are simply using their built-in networking while the DOS machine uses Microsoft Networking for DOS. My questions: Anyone have a clue how I can get the Windows machines to see the DOS machine and how I can share the DSL line between the three? Any suggestions are GREATLY appreciated. Also, for those in the US and parts of Canada, we have just started distributing a free internet service that does not require special software, nor does it require banner ads taking up space on your screen (at least for now). The idea is that you set their web site as the home page in your browser. I'm curious to know if this service will work with Arachne, but haven't had a chance to try it. If any of you are adventurous and want to give it a shot, go to http://accessmasters.com/ffreeinternet.htm (frame page) or http://accessmasters.com/freeinternet.htm (no frame) and try signing up. Please report back to the list and let us know if you can even sign up using Arachne. There are 2 possible fixes: 1) In your Arachne.cfg file specify the actual base # instead of "default". e.g. look for: Port 4 Irq 3 Base 0x2e8 <----instead of Default for Port 4 For Port 3 use 0x3e8 and for Port 2 use 0x2f8. I think a lot of trouble could be skipped if the value "Default" never existed. 2) If the above doesn't do the job, you may have to run a program called "Comports" found at simtelnet in a file called 4ports4u.zip. This program fills holes in the bios list of available ports. Run it every time before Arachne. Occasionally, a bigger hammer is required. However, Michael Dawley had some of the same troubles with a Compaq (950?) and had to revert to a dialer other than Miniterm. (Michael D., jump in and let Jack know what you had to do with the Compaq.) I see that you have the terminal "on". What do you see as it attempts to log on? Is the "WaitFor1 login:" really "login:" or is it "Login:"? Try changing "IP_Address PPP" to "IP_Address %MYIP%". (Is your IP static or dynamic?) These are the only suggestions that I have for now. I configured each machine individually for Arachne. I tried the modem from A1. above in A.2. A2 is down with a sick power supply at the moment. A question on protocol.
