The variable in C used to track the time (think it is the number of seconds elapsed since 1st Jan 1970) will roll over to 0 in 2038 (which the software of course thinks is 1st Jan 1970) So a lot of software written in C (which includes Linux or Eudora (see Eudora's Y2K page) ) will have this problem which includes Insight since it is written in Borland C. > Is this why Arachne behaves OK when the date is set back 6 years, to 1994, but goes bananas when the year is 2094? I suppose, as the computer world approaches 2038, 32-bit processors will be long gone. 64-bit processors will replace 32-bit processors, and likely a few more upgrades within 38 years. You can get them converted to xxx.txt files (without fancy fonts or formatting) by sending them as an e-mail attachment to: [EMAIL PROTECTED] If you have acess to Linux, you can download Acroread from http://www.adobe.com/prodindex/acrobat/alternate.htm. You'll need linux-ar-40.tar.gz. But be forewarned, it is a monstrously large file and you'll need the Unix/Linux gunzip and tar tools to install it. I think there are also Windoes versions to download (equally big I expect). Acrobat Reader v 1.0 for DOS is around also, but it is pretty dysfunctional since it cannot read the files created with later versions (i.e., nearly everything). Thanks for the help. I have come a little bit = further.=20 I have adjusted autoexec.bat and config.sys, and choose the graphic card = Trident 800x600. Then Arachne starts: The two grey headlines (Arachne ..)are visible, one line at the bottom = (copyrigth ...) and then two rectangular grey areas at the rbottom rigth = corner of the screen in the upper field (of this two) a message appears: = DOS Memory (KB) 4303 [+] , Festplatte 0 [!!!]. Then at the top of the = screen the following message comes still: memory allocation error; = Command cannot be loaded, system halted. If I remove smartdrive and keyb.com from the autoexec.bat (to get more = memory) the following message appears after the harddisk wws engaged in = work for quite a long time: Stack overflow. (Doesn't effect low mem) Mine uses 116,096 bytes :) The diffrences in size relate to the settings (for instance CD caching, and the size of the read-ahead buffer). I had something like 26-28K earlier, but since i have all that memmory free I descied it was better used then not and it did increase speed a little.
