Would you believe that I'm sending this from the infamous Deskpro 590!
I'm still working on it, but when I use the diagnostic version
EPPPDD and turn on the debug option the packed driver will hang in there.
This is not a solution, but I think it points the way.

If you are reading the mail, maybe there's hope after all!

 Jack,
 Good work!
When you have time, send me some details. Also, where do you get
epppdd? I just have the epppd that comes with Netdial, and also
the one that comes with Arachne.
 Thanks,

EPPPDD comes with the dospppd distribution available at Citilink. I've
attached a link (don't know how to paste into the Arachne mail yet!).
The pppd.man is helpful.

Jack,
I went there, got the file, unzipped it, and copied the
epppdd.exe to my c:\netdial directory. Then I changed my
aracdial.bat file to show epppdd instead of epppd
Worked perfectly the first time!
Earlier, I had my epppd hang up a short while, and I hit
Esc and it took off. So much for epppd. I'm going with epppdd
however, since both you and I have had success with it on these
Compaq's.
Glad I could help, and Thank you for the epppdd link!
