Enough RAM for decompressing - 2 times more then size of file. And most important is sound card <g>. That's all as i know. BTW i have hardware mp* player which can be connected to lpt port and it work even with 386sx16 with 2 MB RAM (tested !). Maybe 286 will be enough too. No sound card needed. Just printer port, which exist in all computers and HDD or CDROM. Just two small chips. Size of card is less then 3*4 cm. Total cost near 8-10$. But it need some software interface, written in C or Pascal with all this bangles and whistles, and i not able to do it good enough. Now it work in pure assembler without any user interface(even without command line, just in hex codes), cos i keep trying to fit control program in microcontroller. They can just rename working ARACHNE.CFG to COMPUSRV.ACF and offer ACF file for download. Arachne users can easily reconfigure Arachne by opening ACF file in Arachne.>> well, that's not exactly what Brian was told. :) and it's not quite as 'automatic' as that sounds to have it just 'go' :) He asked for someone to create a 'will run for anyone on CompuServe' package for Arachne :) I figure we'll figure that 'perfect' scenario out about the same time you do for your auto installer not to mention that none of the members on CompuServe are paid to do extra work like that. There is already available on the CompuServe DOS Internet forum instructions for setting up Arachne with and without the internal dialer, they didn't work on his PC (sound familiar <g>). The CompuServe forums will be open for the public to use starting April 3rd but require Javascript and now they require an HTTPS login. I don't know how close you are with Arachne to getting to either of those Folks can, with just javascript capability, download files and read messages there, http://go.compuserve.com/inetres A problem with putting together an ACF file is that the other things that the setup program does for them sooner or later would come down to cutting and pasting the Arachne.CFG file and the .ACF file together and it's not quite as straight forward as it seems with the number of options that might set for a particular PC. I haven't had time to work on it but I figure there would probably be a way with .ASF scriptoing or something or better to add, in the Options screen the ability to specify a dial script file to be included on [Save] instead of needing to type each line. This is a dial in Arachne script that works for CompuServe in the U.S.. Of course if you're using Netdial, or Chat.exe, or Bobcat, or Lynx, or UKA_PPP with Arachne as a helper app, then you want to use Connection Ready & usually an IP_Address %MYIP% line and not have this script in play. It would be nice if Arachne could check to see if there is already a connection in memory before having trouble with no PPP LOG entry etc, but that's just a workaround that sets up in the batch file, creating a clone of the Arachne.cfg file and starting it with a batch file that changes it based on what program the user uses to dial. - ------------------ Arachne.cfg dialer for CompuServe U.S. ---------- Autologin Yes WaitFor1 Response1 \w\r WaitFor2 Host Name: Response2 CPS WaitFor3 User ID: Response3 @? WaitFor4 User ID: Response4 \u/noint/go:pppconnect WaitFor5 Password: Response5 \p PPPusername [put CompuServe UserID here] PPPpassword [put CompuServe password here] We have provided copies of Arachne.cfg files to use and dial batch files etc too and how-to set it up files :) But basically, there isn't anyway yet to give them an ACF file that doesn't need to be customized for their situation (ID, Password, modem port, speed, PC speed, etc). Best" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: dumb question? Today I ran across a problem I haven't had before. I set up an ACF for my 3rd mail account, and every time I tried to download mail the process was aborted. I couldn't figure out why! I looked at the POP3.log and it showed I'd gotten in and had gotten to LIST & RETR then nothing. I couldn't figure it out! I went online with primary account, went to mailstart to see if I could get web access to that account. No problem, lots of messages, etc. So I looked at POP3.log again. Discovered that I want another bell & whistle added Arachne -- an option, not necessarily a default. I would like to be able to set up POP3 log with more than one file name, so that I can have that log [backup for lost messages] for more than one e-mail account. Currently that log is overwritten every time mail is downloaded, so there is no backup if a download is interrupted and you have to start again. Huh? No backup? But POP3 software won't erase your mail from the DELE commands unless a proper QUIT is received, right? WRONG! Apparently there is a a new Linux version of POP3 out there, and since it saves each e-mail as a separate file, and not the old single flat file they used to have, the DELE command is obeyed the minute it is given ... before the next file is even list/retr 'd. Now, for some of those who have had terrible problems with aborted downloads and having to start over from scratch each time they try again, this would indeed be a blessing! However, it backs the backup pop3.log more important. Currently, if I download my lstewart mail, the pop3.log for that d/l is overwritten when I then download my l.d.best mail. That's why I'd like to be able to have a differently named pop3 log for each of my mail accounts. Is it possible? And no, I don't want each download appended to the existing file <G> ... my HDD would fill up in no time! l.d. - -- Arachne V1.60;b1, NON-COMMERCIAL copy, http://arachne.cz/ ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 12 Feb 2000 18:23:36 -0400 From: "L.D. I don't understand why not, but I *do* have the runtime dpmi program elsewhere on the machine as I use the Protected Mode version of NTReader (Reader for NetTamer). However... rtm.exe and dpmi16b1.ovl are NOT on my path and are on a different drive. I'm using the msdos EMM386... maybe this is it? What are you using? (1.50 to be exactly) I'm asking for the link, because Insight and HotlistManager have changed from 1.50 to 1.60b1. As most of you know PGP is THE standard for SECURE e-mail-traffic. The DOS-port of PGP is controled about the command line (parameters). It should be possible to make a html-frontend for Arachne (dgi, mime, etc.), which any user could download as an seperate APM-package(frontend+PGP). This is just an idea, so I don't want to start with this project, if I don't know, if it would be useful for some of you!! Please mail any comments!
