Hi Christoph
I use a DOS version of ICQ. It is called MICQ. With this program you can
communicate over the Mirabilis channels with all the windozing ICQ people.
You can use the same UIN that you get from Mirabilis. The similarities in
the features and functioning of MICQ to ICQ are remarkable. MICQ works great.
I would recommend it to everyone. You won't find this program at any
Mirabilis site, as it is not supported by Mirabilis. To download a copy of
MICQ, go to John Lewis' site, aka the VE3LGS home page,
http://members.kingston.net/lewis
In order to use MICQ you must first establish an internet connection and load
a packet driver. I use NetDial, by Marc Ressl, and I use also DOS EPPPD.
These programs are also available from the same web-site. Download the
package for the Bobcat/Lynx browser and you wil find in it Netdial and
DOS EPPPD, along with lots of helpful documentation on how these programs
may be used.
There is probably some way to use MICQ as an Arachne plug-in. I haven't
yet tried to conduct any experiments along that line, but I plan to do so
as soon as I get a round tuit.
