sugestions... well, some questions to start with:
0. what diagnostic program are you using?
1. how many com ports are there when you take the modem out, and what are
there addresses and uart versions? Are those ports on the main board or on
a controller card?
2. idem when you put the modem back in.
3. what after booting from a dos diskette?
(if you have ms-dos 5 or 6.x, just put himem.sys, emm386.exe and msd.exe on
the floppy and write some config.sys)
4. Do you have a manual with jumper settings, or is there a table with the
settings printed on the modem (use a looking glass if necessary)?
