Unless you use Win 3.1 (as I have to do for MIDIs) or have a daughter board,
such as -

Not when the SB16 was a donation to an impoverished musician. :)
Before that, I had only an AdLib clone that did not function at all for
me in DOS. When you got nothing, you make do. I started writing MIDI in
Windows 3.1. :(

Michael,
When you try this PLAYMIDI.EXE, if it works on SB16, and if it
is any improvement on PLAY.EXE, would you let us all know.
My own impression is that it is really just the SBPro version of SB16's
PLAY.EXE. :(
The APM for MIDIs in Arachne was on the APM Download page of Arachne
Website the last time I looked.
FWIW: I have tried all the DOS MIDI "players" that I have come across in
about 2 years of searching the internet. Most require a MIDI board or
external device, and will only give you silence through an ordinary sound
card. :(
Those that do use the SB16 card are those, mostly from Creative, that use
the on-board synthesizer chip, and they make perfectly good MIDIs sound, as
Sergie says, awful. :(
This is probably the only reason that I keep a tamed, tuned, and dedicated
captive version of Win 3.1 on my machine.
