One way to assure that a FILE_ID.DIZ will appear as plain text and not be
base64-encoded is to copy it inline to the message. All but the most primitive
text editors can do that. I hardly ever use Arachne/Insight editor.
One e-mail message normally should appear as one file and would reach the
destination computer that way, though some e-mail programs extract the
attachments before the user knows what's going on. Whether an e-mail message or
attachment appears as an icon depends on the recipient's software rather than
anything on the servers. What appears as an icon under Windows or Mac won't
appear that way on a DOS command-line interface.
