That might be it, Clarence. Maybe he has some speakers too close to
the monitor, or they are unshielded and hence not intended for
computer use. It may well be that the degaussing circuit is on the
fritz. These circuits are designed to only work for a brief period
when the monitor is first turned on and it may have simply quit. He
might be able to find a local TV repair shop that might be able to
degauss it for him manually. HTH.
