Graphics

I've recently installed and configured Arachne for the 1st time. Though
I'm no whizzkid it seems I got almost everything to work smoothly.
Except for the graphics! GIFs, JPEGs etc. show as frames with vertical
lines in fancy colors. What have I missed???
(I must get this right, I'm fed up with MSIE!)  

NB: due to the same problem (I think) the file HOWTO is unreadable too
