I have, if anyone is interested, a file called "whichvga" ... I think it
came with vpic or an older version of djpeg or ????

It tries to autodetect, and it gives you resolutions it thinks you can
use. BUT ... it allows you to select resolutions and try them. This
can be a long process, because if you try wrong resolution on some cards
you may have to reboot. <G>

It also allows you to try different card types, with same choices of
resolutions.

Like I said, it can be time consuming but it may be worth it to get a
handle on what you can call your card and how much you can demand of it.
