Well, that's one improvement that shouldn't have been necessary in the first place. With LocalIcons No in CFG the desktop all files still spews out the icons; now the disable button gives a file list. My question is "will it hold?" My answer is "Not likely, when Arachne ignore cfg file in 1st place!" Icons should NOT be default! They are hard to read, they look rotten, and the screen is nasty and cluttered. SR -- does that stand for SUX, REALLY ???? Second note appended: What's wrong with this picture. Return to "all files" and click on audio playlist. What happens? Not a message that there are no audio files. Instead I get the "all files" listing WITH ICONS yet again. This is NOT what I need, not when I'm trying to do other things beside struggle with software released too early. I'm *afraid* to install some of the APMs -- not just because of the KNOWN bug of looping, but also because even bringing the files over from storage and running them off line could trash what little remaining utility the software has. :< At least the home page recognizes me as having the newest version ... except that was with beta 2 ... I don't know what it will say with SR And Michael, couldn't you even take the time to comment out the External e-mail commands?? You *know* those shouldn't be default and newbies shouldn't have to learn how to edit arachne.cfg before they can even access the mailing list! You've commented lately that a lot of the work you needed to do was booooooring. Well, polishing facets onto a fine diamond is boring too ... listen to hum as it goes round and round on that platter covered with diamond dust, cutting a little more each rotation ... but it you're not listening, not paying attention when the tone of the hum changes, you'll be too late to save the facet when "soft" diamond is hit and cuts 5 times faster than before. Because it was boring, a perfectly good diamond became no more than trash to let students practice on. I couldn't even send this mail on the first try! "Arachne out of conventional memory 3616 bytes missing" Installation Finished and the program aborted to DOS prompt. I typed Arachne -u to hang up the phone that got left off the hood when the abend occured even before full modem negotiation. I checked the memory and nothing was taken up, no extra stuff anywhere, free and clean 626K available. I wonder if I'll be able to send this at all, or if I'll have to go back to s.r.c.
