Does anyone on the list have any experience with Arachne running on a
486 and using 115200 for the serial port speed to the modem? I had a
33600 Fax modem and had the set-up page select 38400 as the port speed.
Recently I tried the 115200 setting and downloading was noticeably
faster, but log-ins failed about 50% of the time. I went into
ARACHNE.CFG and manually edited the speed to 57600 and this seems more
reliable. I've just upgraded the modem to a 56K type. That gives
unreliable log-ins on 115200, too - in fact, seemingly MORE unreliable
than the slower modem....

I should mention that I've got a 16C550AFN UART on this port, both
modems are external "genuine" types and the 486 goes at 100MHz with
16Mb RAM on a VLB board. Arachne version is V1.60b1. I tried 1.6SR and
that seemed even worse. Anyone have any thoughts, please??

One last thought - I wondered whether this could have anything to do
with the problems some people here report when they can't get Arachne
to log in, no matter what they try?

   Thanks for any pointers!

      Ron.
