I have been having the same problems you describe here ever since I
switched to 1.6x. I never had these problems with 1.42, the version
I was running before I upgraded. This is indeed a somewhat consternating
annoyance, but fortunately the problem has not resulted in any lost
messages. Now whenever a silly little annoyance is raised to a somewhat
consternating level, then we can say that something is broke to the point
of requiring fixing. Yes, this is quite a consternating problem.
