[EMAIL PROTECTED], On crashing one's hard drive installing Linux, it seems to me safer than installing MS Windows 95, 98, NT or 2000. Linux installation leaves the other partitions alone. But it is quite possible to destroy a Windows partition with Linux fdisk. I am familiar with the Slackware distribution. Maybe some other distribution, with GUI install, has a bug in the installation program?
