It looks like DOSPPPD is not seeing the comport that you modem is
on. This might be because you have a "gap" in your comports, i.e.
COM1 (perhaps a mouse), no COM2 or COM3, and your modem on COM4. IF
this is the case (or something similar) DOSPPPD may be looking for
your modem on COM4, BUT your BIOS is reporting COM1 and COM2 with NO
COM3 or COM4 (even if you modem is there). The best solution is to
put your modem on COM2 if your mouse is on COM1, or to put your modem
on COM1 if you have no mouse or use a PS/2 mouse. There are a couple
of software fixes that sometimes can correct this problem without
reconfiguring your modem. If you wish to do this somebody on the list
can help you more than I can since I don't use these solutions
myself. HTH.
