RAR is MUCH tighter than ZIP or ARJ.

Yes ... ZIP is known better ...

No ... RAR can incorporate redundant data, so that it can recover from
small errors.
ZIP can't do this ...
RAR and ACE were born to get better compression ratios and more robust
archives.
(PS RAR has a norton commander like interface, which can also decompress
ZIP files ... but naturally there is also a standard console mode :)
