Hi Kali,
        I am a firm believer in silicone spray(the thin,
"disappearing" kind) to prevent corrosion on electrical
terminals and such. It's mostly invisible and helps
preserve rubber parts. However, it can attack some plastic
so one has to be careful. I find it good for lubricating
things such as the slide/guide bar for the head on dot
matrix printers.
