I'm willing to pay for software that does what I want it to do. When
I'm desperate, I've been known to pay for software that simply *claimed*
that it did what I wanted to do. [Can you say "burned?"]
But the willingness of people to pay for something being the only
determination of what goes into software is LUDICROUS! And it doesn't
work anyway.
People are willing to pay for Windows ...
Would anyone care to raise his/her hand and say that willingness to pay
for Windows makes it worth what they pay for it, or worth the space it
takes?
As for finding out what Arachne is capable of, I'm going to do a bit of
healthy disagreeing here...
Simply because *we* find we can do something due to the basic design of
Arachne DOES NOT MEAN that Michael designed Arachne to do what we find
we can do. And it doesn't mean that Michael thought of using some
extant aspect of Arachne to accomplish what one *experienced* user or
another managed to do. The e-mail address list ending up on the hotlist
page was Michael's design; Glenn showed me what could be done if you
knew html and a bit about Arachne design & function, and I went on to
set things up so *I* could have my e-mail address list where I could
access it to use, add to, change, save it, when I was writing or reading
e-mail, etc. I was willing to pay for a decent e-mail address book, but
Michael didn't design one. The pages I designed are free.
Rather than demanding we shut up completely, or pay for the software one
feature at a time as Michael cranks them out, is rather "less than
genius" ... What I have suggested to TPTB is a link from Arachne home
page where a list of things 'in the works' is kept -- a current one.
We could go there and see that certain aspects were planned
(a) Currently never
<b> way down the road [UseNet access?]
[c] after the first release of Arachne for Linux
{d} as soon as someone can be found to get it written
*e* working on it right now
There could also be the equivalent of a guest book or ? where users
could comment about something they wanted and didn't see on the list.
It would benefit just about everyone. No more personal message to
Michael, no more requirement that he read the Arachne list to see what
was happening, and no more having to pull teeth to find out just what is
going on with Arachne development [if that list was kept current!].
Right now I am scared as all getout for Michael ... apparently NONE of
you saw what I saw in his message ...

Right now Michael is walking a tightrope without a safety net! Any
investors that can help him financially also can take Arachne Labs away
from him ... I hope he has a VERY good lawyer experienced with keeping
venture capitalist under control and denying them control of a company.
My fingers are cross on this one ... and some of you might consider what
the consequences *could* be.
