Last night, Friday July 21 at about 5:00 EDT (0900 GMT), I successfully logged
on to Freewwweb. That was my first attempt with OS/2 as opposed to DOS. But
accessing the mail servers failed at first, even tracerte failed. I went to the
support site, and it looked rather strange. I filled out the short form and
submitted, only to be returned to the identical form. I was going to email
[EMAIL PROTECTED], but then another attempt at pop3.freewwweb.com was
successful. I guess I can use my Freewwweb email to see if it works, but not
for anything important, considering the days are numbered.
> The good thing about Dialfree is that it doesn't require software downloads
and such. You just sign up for service and plug in their settings. The bad
thing about Dialfree is that if you don't fill out one survey each month,
you'll be charged $19.95 for service for that month.
How do they enforce the $19.95 for a month where a user fails to fill out the
survey? Is the survey form Arachne-friendly, Lynx-friendly, or is it
javascripted? Would they just terminate a user who fails to pay the assessment?
I was just on Freewwweb in OS/2 Warp 4 VDM, couldn't reach news.freewwweb.com
("Remote host reset connection."). Trying to access pop3.freewwweb.com froze
the computer as solid as the South Pole in July (which is the coldest time of
year there), and when I rebooted, date was July 22, 1994, which I reset at the
command prompt.
