Sam,
    I find most downloads can be re-done if I lose
my cache. I lose my cache more frequently because
of xswap errors or system lock-ups than from power
outages. From power outages I'm more concerned that
I may lose my computer! If your downloading something
irreplaceable you could use a special setup that caches
to HD for those "special" occasions.
