   I would have thought that an internal modem still had a UART, since
the line data is serial and the PC bus is parallel. Therefore, the UART
would still need to be told what speed to work at on its connection to
the modem chip (simplisticly speaking - I suspect that UART and modem
would really be all one big chip). So I'd expect that the only
difference between internal and external modems is that the internal
doesn't have the D-type connectors, cable and extra box in between the
UART and modulator/demodulator like the external one does.
Oh yes - and Billy Goates can't screw up an external one....
