Clocks and DOS ..
I am, and cannot deny it any longer, a pinball addict. It ustawuz I
knew which machines would "pay off" in cash as long as the owner knew
you weren't a cop and none were around. Had one machine I could burp
like a baby to get those extra games. :)
Now, however, I'm left only with simulations that run on my computer.
Having noticed a couple of times that my clock was wayyyyy off, I did a
bit of sleuthing and discovered that both pinball series I run [Epic and
Extreme] affect the CMOS clock.
One series stops the clock in its tracks ... no time passes as long as
I'm in that program. The other series makes life interesting on the
other end -- and almost caused a heart attack a couple of times --
because it speeds up the clock, and exiting after half an hour's time
can result in a clock time that is an hour or more fast! ARGGHHH ... I
missed my appointment!! rush rush ... waddahminut, that clock says it's
only ... grrrrrrrrrrrRRRRR
Since I can never keep track of which package does what, I now double
check the VCR time so I can reset the computer.
At least Arachne has never been reported to mess up the CMOS clock!!
And Pete, DOS does use the CMOS clock. If your clock is showing up
wrong, it's a bad battery or a timing problem on that "new" mobo.
