Ah, but you are using a program to set it for you.
Since (atleast I think so) both you and Sam have missunderstood me (and
perhaps someone else who hasn't said anything) I'll take it one more time
on how this works:
1. You use a program to connect (or test the modem), no need to use mode
2. You use AT commands yourself to the modem - you must set the com-port
(with mode or something else)
I have never used mode except if I would want to use an AT command myself.
(And to get back to Linux what it did was to not set the com-ports but
started issuing AT commands directly).

Ah, the diffrence of places... 33k6 modems have been hard to come by for
over a year here. Almost all modems here these days are 56K WinModems :(
I would suggest you start piling up com-mice, since they are almost extinct
here now I would assume you would get the same thing in a year or so.
