Most of us know that we can select as our "home page" any page on the
web; some of us don't realize [I wasn't sure until I tried] that we can
select internal components of Arachne as that "home page."
I tried it because being connected 24/7 to the CMLAN meant that I
couldn't use Arachne "off-line." I selected my in-box because it was
easy to find the designation to call the in-box in Arachne.cfg <G>.
What I wasn't sure of, but thought was true, is that when a webpage is
set as "home" page, Arachne will take non-cable setups to the dial page
[and 'auto-dial' if you're set up that way?] every time you change your
profile... because Arachne has to restart to load the new arachne.cfg
file. It was quite a nuisance for me, because it would simply start
downloading the arachne home page on restart each time, and I'd have to
hit the hotkey "I" to get to in-box and wait for Arachne to quit down-
loading and start the inbox dgi.
So ... here's the handy hint: If you have multiple profiles for various
ISPs and/or personnas, try setting up Arachne.cfg with the inbox as the
home page. That way you go to the inbox page upon "restart" and don't
automatically dial. If you need to check mail you've saved or pending
outgoing mail you can do that prior to hitting "D" for dial.
If you're on a 24/7 LAN connection, it can save you quite a lot of time
like it does me.

P.S. Handy Hint #249.5 -- If you're brave, and have a decent size RAM
drive, try creating a CACHE directory on the RAMdrive before you start
Arachne [or as part of A.bat quick start file?] and set up a profile
with CACHE set to that directory on the RAM drive. It cuts down HDD
activity by at least 80% and speeds processing of jpg/png files to bmp.
WARNING: Do this only if you have a stable installation of Arachne, and
if RAMdrive is small remember to 'clear cache F-8' frequently.
