Dear Arachnids/nauts/ophiles,

In re-working an aniGIF for Hallowe'en, I was reminded of a
"feature" Arachne has when these animations are compressed
via the use of cropping to dirty rectangles. Cropping is an
automated process whereby only the rectangle enclosing the
portion of each frame containing a change is saved to the new
file. When the aniGIF is played each frame should be cleared
by the background when it has been displayed for its allotted
time. Arachne does not clear the frame so a subsequent frame,
if cropped to a smaller area, will leave remnants of the image
from the preceding frame.

All will become clear with a visit to:
http://www.wymondhamleics.freeserve.co.uk/bats.htm (25kB)
The left-hand bat gets its wings in a flap.

Our use of the Web isn't really handicapped by this problem, but
re-working an aniGIF to accommodate Arachne takes some time.

With regards,

Jake, plus werewolves, whatwolves and whenwolves.
