Dear Thomas:

The recent issues of the Digest seem to be embroiled about the
significance of language and so forth. Suffice it to say that I
very much liked your response, but the line length was a little
long. There may be reasons for this, but I only have a 80 inch
horinzontal line length with the 15 inch monitor. I assume for
lack of other explanation, it is because of the NOS-BOX mailer
which is new to you.

I, like others on the List, am a lover of the English language
and culture, but I think when it spans more than about two issues of
the Digest, it misses the point. Hopefully, this will not be in the
next issue of the Digest. Is it just me, or do I perceive an ingrained
desire on the part of us Arachniphiles to feel like we are singled out
for abuse? Yes, I see the weaknesses and problems about the current
American culture, but why obsess about them all the time? Will that
make Microsoft or other things just vanish? I like some of the ideas
of Sam Heywood about doing something constructive about spam, etc.
However, let the free opinion of List members surface. If someone
wants to "rule me out of order" or disagree, that is her or his own
right. I hope that is what being a "thinking American" on the List
is all about. Mainly, is this dialogue helpful and constructive?
Some people could be getting the impression that all we Arachne users
want is cheap software so we can just write e-mails to gossip.

Yours,

"tomstfor" on List
