This is quite weird. Should have made Windows 95 stop the boot at
the prompt and not continue to run Windows. What i'm going to say may
sound abit stupid but:

1)Make sure that in autoexec.bat, there's nothing that call to WIN.COM
2)(extremly silly) check that you really saved the changes to msdos.sys.
  Its usually have its read-only, system, and hidden flags on.

bootgui=0 should always work unless something else call for Windows
after boot. That would normally be the autoexec.

When you get a bootmenu, do ALT+F5 drop you to prompt immidiatly?
(Like pressing left-Shift or F5 during a MS-DOS boot)
I think it was ALT.. could be CTRL. There should be a short help on
which keys to press in the buttom of the screen when you reach
(or call) the bootmenu.
